Holiday Cottage Dunster
Step back into the Middle Ages...while enjoying modern home comforts.
Dating back to the 15th Century, this cosy self-catering holiday home in Dunster
has original cruck beams, oak screening, a stunning four-poster bed, wood burning
stove, stone floors and many more fascinating features.
The Oval is constructed of timbers some of which are more than 600 years old. Its
name is nothing to do with cricket – it’s a corruption of the word ‘hovel’, used
for any house in past times. It’s thrilling to explore and find marks on the wood
panelling that were made by the carpenters so long ago, or sleep in the stately
four-poster, just like Henry VIII.
"A wonderful holiday in a lovely home. Never knew Dunster had so much to offer with great walks and historic castles etc. to visit and very convenient transport from the main road to travel into Minehead. We didn’t have time to travel to all the other places as we were too busy enjoying this cottage and village. It took a move to Berkshire to bring me back again to Somerset, and the lovely Oval, a wonderful holiday and beautiful cottage. We have really enjoyed our time here and very much enjoyed showing our two boys where I grew up. We should definitely be booking again for a fortnight next time as a week is nowhere near long enough."
